Are you considering a visit to a Conroe, The Woodlands, or Houston plastic surgeon like Dr. Myers for BOTOX® injections to erase neck lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, or forehead expression lines? If so, you may be wondering if you’ll have any downtime after your injections, or if it’ll be business as usual as soon as your appointment is finished. After all, if you’ve never had this treatment before, how could you possibly know what to expect?
As you’ll see from this blog post, Conroe, The Woodlands, and Houston patients are able to return to work, school, or their household duties immediately after they receive their injections from local plastic surgeon Dr. Myers of Myers Plastic Surgery. But that doesn’t mean you can do just anything after your injections.
There are some important instructions to follow immediately after your appointment, and for up to a week afterward. Additionally, since some patients experience swelling, redness, and bruising after BOTOX® injections, they may desire to take a short time off from their social activities until those side effects have subsided.
Even if you experience swelling, redness, or bruising, don’t try to ice your treatment area to alleviate these side effects. Doing so may negatively interfere with the BOTOX’s® ability to be absorbed by its targeted muscles.
You can, however, wear cosmetics to cover up redness and bruising. In fact, you can put makeup on before you even leave Myers Plastic Surgery!
You don’t have to take any time off work to get BOTOX®. You can schedule your injections early in the morning and come in late for work, or have your injections performed over your lunch break! Additionally, you’re encouraged to:
Upon discharge, Dr. Myers provides his Conroe patients with a list of activities to avoid after receiving injections. These include:
If signs of aging are showing up on your face or neck, regular injections with this solution can keep those fine lines and wrinkles at bay.

BOTOX® injections are popular amongst Conroe, The Woodlands, and Houston men and women who want to minimize the appearance of neck lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead expression lines. If you’re considering this treatment for the first time, you may be wondering what you need to do to prepare for your appointment, what your session will entail, and what the recovery process is like. Keep reading for answers to these common questions from local plastic surgeon Dr. Myers of Myers Plastic Surgery.
Before you let Conroe plastic surgeon Dr. Myers, ranked one of the top doctors in Texas by Texas Monthly, treat your facial wrinkles with BOTOX® injections, you need to do the following:
• Disclosure Your Full Medical History
Certain medical conditions or prescription medications may exclude you from receiving injections. In order to protect your health, make sure to tell Dr. Myers your complete medical history, including any health conditions you have, allergies especially to milk, prescription or over-the-counter medications you take, and any herbal supplements you may take, too.
• Share Your Treatment Goals
Dr. Myers wants to make sure his Conroe patients have realistic expectations for their treatments. Be open and honest with Dr. Myers about the results you’re hoping to achieve so he can tell you if your goals are realistically attainable.
• If Medically Safe, Stop Taking Blood Thinners
BOTOX® and blood thinners don’t mix. If it’s medically safe for you to do so, you should stop taking all blood-thinning medications and supplements before your appointment, including aspirin, Excedrin, and Ginko Bilboa. You’ll also need to refrain from re-starting these medications and supplements for 1 week after your injections.
Your appointment with Dr. Myers will be efficient, easy, and stress-free. To make this a reality, follow these steps:
• Remove Any Makeup You’re Wearing Before Your Appointment
Your injections need to take place on a clean, cosmetics-free face. Make sure to use a makeup removing face wash to clean your face of any cosmetics you may have on before your appointment at Myers Plastic Surgery.
• Stay Still and Relaxed During Your Injections
We know some patients in the Conroe, The Woodlands, and Houston may have a fear of needles, but it’s very important to stay calm, relaxed, and still during your injections. This will help ensure that Dr. Myers injects BOTOX® directly into the desired muscles that are a part of your treatment plan.
Conroe, The Woodlands, and Houston patients can return to their daily activities immediately after their injections, so long as those responsibilities don’t include any aerobic or physical activity for the next week. Patients also should not lie down within 4 hours after their appointments. Additionally, you should:
• Avoid Rubbing or Massaging You Treatment Area
Rubbing or massaging your treatment area can make the injected BOTOX® inadvertently spread to other areas of your face. To prevent this, keep your hands away from the areas of your face that received injections.
• Abstain from Alcohol for 1 Week
To avoid the blood-thinning effects of alcohol, abstain from all alcohol usage for 1 week after your injections. Instead, enjoy your favorite mocktails!
• Stay Away from Facials or Chemical Peels for 1 Week After Your Injections
A facial or chemical peel may be a part of your overall facial rejuvenation plan. However, you need to avoid these treatments for 1 week after your injections.
If you’re medically able to follow these instructions and you want to minimize the appearance of wrinkles on your face and neck, schedule an appointment with Dr. Myers.

Have you started noticing horizontal rings around your neck beginning to form? Or have these indented wrinkles, commonly referred to as necklace lines, become so deep and prominent that they are beginning to affect your confidence? If so, Botox is a noninvasive treatment that can help patients in The Woodlands regain a smoother, more youthful looking neck.
Trying to Outsmart Necklace Lines
Before some of our patients in The Woodlands are willing to acknowledge that Botox treatments are the real solution to their necklace lines, they will sometimes turn to clothing, makeup or jewelry to try to hide the unattractive wrinkles around their necks. Your closet may be full of turtlenecks, shirts, and blouses with high fitting collars or bulky scarves and thick choker-style necklaces – that are all uncomfortable and costly. Some people in The Woodlands have also tried every expensive wrinkle cream on the shelves to try to smooth away their necklace lines, and to their dismay, the wrinkling continues to get worse. The problem is that while they are trying to treat or hide their neck wrinkles on their own, the lines are still carving deeper into the skin. Beginning Botox treatment for your necklace lines as soon as possible is in your best interest.
How Necklace Lines Form
There are some ways that Botox patients in The Woodlands contribute to the formation of their ropey-looking neck wrinkles such as looking down at their phones repeatedly and for extended periods of time. Exposing your neck to too much sun, prolonged dehydration, and smoking are also extremely harmful the health of your skin, especially the skin around your neck because it is naturally thin and delicate. Botox patients in The Woodlands do not get a say so in their genetics though. Genetics play a significant role in how soon you will develop necklace lines and how prominent they will become. Eventually, all of us will develop necklace lines to some degree because as we age because our skin loses its elasticity and produces less collagen, and for women, there is a decrease in estrogen levels.
How Can Botox Help My Aging Neck?
Botox is injected above and below the creases circling your neck in small amounts which relaxes the underlying muscles, making the skin on your neck look and feel smoother, firmer, and more youthful. Something that some of our patients in The Woodlands may not know about Botox is that although it may take more Botox to treat the wrinkling around your neck than facial wrinkles; the results will last longer than facial injections because there is usually less muscle movement in the neck area as opposed to the face. Botox is not a permanent wrinkle remover, but the results can be maintained for patients who are willing to return for repeat treatments as the Botox begins to subside over time, and best of all, if you are diligent – your necklace lines may be significantly diminished or be eliminated entirely.
We welcome you to call us at (936) 539-8115 to schedule an appointment. When you call, our friendly and knowledgeable staff can answer any questions you may have.

If you think you know everything that there is to know about Botox – get ready to learn some exciting news about this incredible product! For many years millions of Americans have chosen Botox injections to smooth out their unwanted wrinkles because it’s been proven to work brilliantly. Patients in The Woodlands who want to regain and/or maintain the glow of youth without having to undergo invasive surgery, such as a facelift, might already know about the kind of incredible results Botox has to offer. But research is now showing that what was once considered to be a temporary solution may provide amazing long-term rejuvenating effects.
The Reason for the Wrinkles
There are essentially two factors that work concurrently to create wrinkles. The first one is obvious – the aging process. Wrinkles are a result of repeated facial expressions. Our emotions are a delightful part of life, but our skin remembers every little smile and frown. Each day we make hundreds of facial expressions which over the years create a pattern of well-worn grooves and creases on our faces. Even if we tried to control the muscles in our faces, it would be next to impossible.
The other reason that residents of The Woodlands start to see wrinkles on their faces becoming deeper and more noticeable is that with age our skin begins to lose two vital proteins that contribute to youthful skin called elastin and collagen. Elastin and collagen both aid in our skins ability to remain firm and flexible. But without a good supply of “E and C,” skin that was once youthful looking will begin to sag and droop.
Heres Where it Gets Interesting
There is new evidence that Botox treatments may promote the production of collagen and elastin that patients in The Woodlands have lost as they’ve aged. Another possible reason that doctors think that Botox may produce long-term benefits is that it may have an antioxidant effect on skin tissue. It is thought that when facial muscles move toxins cause some degree of damage to the skin’s elastin and collagen. By paralyzing facial muscles, Botox allows your skin time to rest, allowing collagen and elastin a chance to recover and relax back into place. Although doctors are still learning precisely how Botox works to produce long-term results for the age-old problem of wrinkled skin they are making important discoveries every day about how and why Botox treatments work.
Keeping it Simple
What started out as a fast and easy in-office treatment still takes only a few minutes out of your busy day is just as simple as ever – the only change is that you may be tapping into the fountain of youth! A brilliantly simple side-effect for our neighbors in The Woodlands.
The field of cosmetic injectables is constantly evolving and finding new ways to help you look and feel your absolute best. If we’ve sparked your interest and you’d like to learn more about how Botox can keep you looking beautiful for a long time, give our knowledgeable staff a call today at ou offices in the The Woodlands area (936) 539-8115.

Usually, by the time people who live in The Woodlands begin to consider Botox as a means of stopping the progression of existing wrinkles they’ve already accumulated many years worth of lines on their faces. And, although Botox does temporarily improve the look of the wrinkles they already have, it can’t erase them. But today more and more young people are turning to Botox in their 20’s and 30’s to prevent wrinkles from ever developing in the first place.
Stopping New Wrinkles From Forming
People in The Woodlands get to choose whether or not they will go out in the sun without sunblock, or smoke cigarettes. They also have freedom of choice when it comes to what they to eat and drink as well as how much rest and exercise they get. Today young people are more aware than their parents and grandparents ever were about the harmful effects of unhealthy habits and can prevent unnecessary damage to the health of their skin. But what about our emotions? For every joyous moment of laughter, grimace or disappointing heartbreak, our facial muscles respond by contracting hundreds of times every day, and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
So how can Botox prevent faint lines laugh lines and crows feet from becoming deeply grooved furrows? And what about wrinkles that haven’t even had time to make a home on your face yet? Patients in The Woodlands that are in their 20’s and 30’s have plump, firm skin that we all associate with good health and youth. So by committing to Botox treatments early in life makes a lot of sense if you want to ward off future wrinkles. Preventative Botox can also save you from having to undergo more invasive and costly procedures, such as a facelift, down the line.
Starting Botox Treatments Later in Life
Those who weren’t fortunate enough to begin Botox injections early in life can still soften the look of their wrinkles. Botox may prevent the wrinkles that many men and women living in The Woodlands already have from progressing further by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause crows feet, frown lines, and other unattractive etched lines and creases. So it really is never too late to start Botox treatments.
Maintainance
No matter your age, to keep wrinkles at bay it’s important that you continue to come in for Botox maintenance treatments. Botox injections usually last between 3 to 4 months, after which the effects will begin to wear off, and the unwanted wrinkles will gradually start to reappear, or in the case of younger patients new ones may slowly show up. It is a good idea to make an appointment for your next Botox treatment with one of our staff after your painless and fast procedure has been completed that way you will be sure to stay on top of things.

There is so much discussion these days about dermal fillers, and how they compare with Botox. Patients in The Woodlands assume that not only are they similar, but they also work the same way. Nothing could be further from the truth, and we are going to explain why dermal fillers are not an option at all.
Let’s Clear Up the Confusion
Botox has proven to be super safe and effective for decades. Botox is designed to treat what are called dynamic lines. It’s is primarily used to relax and smoothe out the frown lines that show up between the eyes, sometimes called elevens; crows feet – the wrinkles that make a home at the outer corners of your eyes; and the horizontal creases some of our patients in The Woodlands notice on their foreheads – surprise! Those too.
Over time the expressions that you make everyday cause lines to show up that become permanent even when your face is relaxed. Botox should be administered by a board-certified plastic surgeon who understands the anatomy of the face and how to precisely target the correct areas, injecting just enough Botox, so you look refreshed and not frozen. We recommend our patients in The Woodlands come in for maintenance treatments every 3 to 4 months to keep their faces looking smooth and lovely. We aim to create a natural, rested appearance that still allows you the ability to animate your facial muscles.
What’s Wrong with Dermal Fillers and is there Another Choice?
Now that you know a little more about the pluses of Botox lets talk a minute about dermal fillers. Remember how we told you about dynamic lines and why Botox works so well on them? Well, what about the areas of your face that have lost volume and are deeply creased? We refer to those areas as static. There are several different dermal fillers advertised to “fill in” deep wrinkles and areas that have lost volume. Dermal fillers are an option we make available to our The Woodlands patients, but depending on your needs, you may want to consider “fat grafting” as an alternative to dermal fillers.
What is Fat Grafting and How does it Work?
What you may not know is that a lot of people experience allergic reactions and unpleasant side-effects when using dermal fillers. On the other hand, fat grafting is a terrific way to add volume and smoothe out static wrinkles using your body fat. Without going into too much detail fat grafting involves taking fat from parts of your body that you don’t want it anyway, via liposuction, purifying it and injecting it into the areas of your face that require a different approach. Fat grafting, like Botox, is non-invasive, can be permanent in some cases, and your body will not reject it.
How do I Know What is Right for Me?
Botox has a reputation for being the BEST at treating dynamic wrinkles for a reason – it works! Dermal fillers are newer, and there is evidence they can be beneficial, but it’s best to play it safe whenever possible. Call our office in The Woodlands today at (936) 539-8115 to schedule an appointment where you can learn more about your options and what is best for you.

unpleasant signs of an aging neck you probably have more than one of the neck issues listed above. Luckily there is a solution that has worked for millions of men and women just like you.

How Can Exercise Possibly Be Bad for Me?
We all fall somewhere between mildly active and full-throttle body athlete. There are those that never skip a day at the gym – no matter what – that may be wondering, “Can’t I get in a quick jog or spin class after my Botox injections?” For people living in The Woodlands that enjoy walking the dog – almost as much as the dog enjoys it – also know this brisk stroll can wear you out too.
Dr. Myers, at Myers Plastic Surgery, understands that his patients in The Woodlands are dedicated to their health – eating well, exercising regularly, and having Botox treatments to keep their faces looking fresh and youthful are some of the ways they stay looking and feeling their best. There are some simple instructions Dr. Myers asks his patients to follow that help to ensure the best results, one of which is waiting 24 hours after Botox injections to exercise.
We’d like to touch on some of the reasons that Dr. Myers advises his patients to refrain from strenuous activity for 24 hours following their Botox procedure.
Have you noticed that your face becomes red and flushed when you work out? Well, the reason for that rosy glow is that when you exercise it increases your circulation. The increased blood flow in your body and face is natural. But during the hours following your injections, the Botox is being absorbed into the neuromuscular junctions which control muscle movements, which over time, create wrinkles. You don’t want to do anything that will potentially increase the risk of Botox acting in another area of your face, decreasing your results. If you must, we suggest working out a few hours before coming to Myers Plastic Surgery in The Woodlands for your Botox procedure.
After your “day off” you’ll be able to resume your active lifestyle. Dr. Myers understands that his patients are excited to look into the mirror and finally love their reflection. Wrinkles that make you look older than who you truly are – fit, fun, and fabulous – will look smoother and younger. It’s best to err on the side of caution when your health is involved. Though Botox isn’t an invasive surgery, your safety and health are Dr. Myers #1 priority.
When you tell those uninvited crows feet and frown lines to take a hike, make sure they have a head start. Kick off your running shoes for a day and take a break. On any other day shopping, or walking the dog is just part of your routine and doesn’t require much exertion – you could probably do it with your eyes closed. But by you keep your activity level minimized for a day you can increase the effectiveness of the Botox.
If you’re ready to see what Botox can do for you, call our offices in The Woodlands area at (936) 539-8115. Our discrete and knowledgeable staff can schedule a convenient time for your appointment with Dr. Myers.

Have you been avoiding group pictures? Or trying to get the right angle or lighting for a selfie – but have realized that there just really isn’t one? These little frustrations add up and are probably just a small fraction of why you are considering Botox.
Both men and women alike are unhappy with how aging negatively affects their appearance. Women spend countless dollars on expensive make-up, serums, moisturizers, and a myriad of other products with the hope of concealing the effects of aging. Men and women in The Woodlands may even decide that a dramatic new haircut will improve their appearance, only to see the same unpleasant creases or sagging jowls. If you are ready to wave the white flag and finally see some real change, Botox may be just right for you.
We’ve comprised a list of 3 ways that Botox can improve your appearance – some may surprise you.
This may be the most obvious reason The Woodlands patients seek out Botox as a way to improve how they look. We’ve all heard that youth is wasted on the young and as we age, we realize just what that means. Our skin has a vitality that slowly slips away with time. Dr. Myers has helped his patients using Botox to rejuvenate and smooth out targeted areas with virtually pain-free injections that last between 3 and 6 months on average. You will be delighted to have your picture taken and may stop in your tracks when you catch a glimpse of your new, more youthful look.
The Woodlands patients are often surprised when they realize how much their mood has improved after having Botox treatments. The truth is that there is a direct correlation between how we feel and how we look. Most people come to Dr. Myers expecting to improve their appearance and experience the bonus of a new-found confidence and a boost to their self-esteem. Nothing is more attractive that a cheerful attitude combined with a fresh new glow. Your mood will most definitely improve when you see how amazing you look. Our social lives and careers are enhanced when we start to feel and look better.
After Botox treatments, many The Woodlands patients look and feel so great that it often kickstarts their efforts to get back to the gym, start eating better and finding other new ways to take care of themselves. Once we get the ball rolling it gains momentum. When your appearance is improved, it will quite possibly inspire you to get going on your fitness routine and create a healthy new lifestyle for yourself.
You see, by improving how you look, you most likely will see other changes in your life. Start by erasing those crows feet, smile lines, frown lines, brow lines and sagging jowls. Then notice a spring in your step and an attitude that radiates confidence. Maybe even a renewed gym membership!
