Will Exercising After Botox Decrease Results

We all fall somewhere between mildly active and full-throttle body athlete. There are those that never skip a day at the gym  – no matter what – that may be wondering, “Can’t I get in a quick jog or spin class after my Botox injections?” For people living in The Woodlands that enjoy walking the dog – almost as much as the dog enjoys it – also know this brisk stroll can wear you out too.

The 24 Hour Rule

Dr. Myers, at Myers Plastic Surgery, understands that his patients in The Woodlands are dedicated to their health – eating well, exercising regularly, and having Botox treatments to keep their faces looking fresh and youthful are some of the ways they stay looking and feeling their best. There are some simple instructions Dr. Myers asks his patients to follow that help to ensure the best results, one of which is waiting 24 hours after Botox injections to exercise.

Exercise Good Judgment

We’d like to touch on some of the reasons that Dr. Myers advises his patients to refrain from strenuous activity for 24 hours following their Botox procedure.

Have you noticed that your face becomes red and flushed when you work out? Well, the reason for that rosy glow is that when you exercise it increases your circulation. The increased blood flow in your body and face is natural. But during the hours following your injections, the Botox is being absorbed into the neuromuscular junctions which control muscle movements, which over time, create wrinkles. You don’t want to do anything that will potentially increase the risk of Botox acting in another area of your face, decreasing your results. If you must, we suggest working out a few hours before coming to Myers Plastic Surgery in The Woodlands for your Botox procedure.

After your “day off” you’ll be able to resume your active lifestyle. Dr. Myers understands that his patients are excited to look into the mirror and finally love their reflection. Wrinkles that make you look older than who you truly are – fit, fun, and fabulous – will look smoother and younger. It’s best to err on the side of caution when your health is involved. Though Botox isn’t an invasive surgery, your safety and health are Dr. Myers #1 priority.

Easy Does It

When you tell those uninvited crows feet and frown lines to take a hike, make sure they have a head start. Kick off your running shoes for a day and take a break. On any other day shopping, or walking the dog is just part of your routine and doesn’t require much exertion – you could probably do it with your eyes closed. But by you keep your activity level minimized for a day you can increase the effectiveness of the Botox.
