Breast augmentation is a popular cosmetic procedure that involves the placement of breast implants to enhance the size and shape of breasts. While the traditional approach has been to position the implants beneath the chest muscle (submuscular placement), it is important to recognize that this technique may not be suitable for every patient.
Understanding Submuscular Placement:
Submuscular placement involves positioning the breast implant beneath the pectoralis major muscle, which lies between the breast tissue and the chest wall. This technique offers advantages such as increased tissue coverage, reduced risk of capsular contracture, and improved visibility during mammograms. However, it is not the only approach, and there are scenarios where alternative placement options may be more appropriate.
Sufficient Breast Tissue:
Patients with adequate natural breast tissue may not necessarily require submuscular placement. If there is already a significant amount of breast tissue, it can provide ample coverage for the implant, resulting in a natural and aesthetically pleasing outcome. In such cases, subglandular placement (positioning the implant beneath the breast tissue but above the muscle) may be a viable option.
Ptosis (Sagging):
When a patient has breast ptosis (sagging), submuscular placement may not be necessary. Ptosis refers to the descent of the breast tissue, and if it is mild, subglandular placement can adequately address the patient’s goals without the need. This approach can also yield a shorter recovery period and less post-operative discomfort.
Athletic or Active Patients:
Patients who lead an active lifestyle or participate in sports may prefer subglandular placement to submuscular placement. Placing the implant above the muscle can minimize movement and distortion of the breast during physical activity, leading to increased comfort and reduced risk of implant displacement.
Patient Preference:
Ultimately, patient preference plays a significant role in determining the implant placement. Some individuals may simply prefer the aesthetic outcome achieved with subglandular placement, as it can provide more projection and a defined upper pole. Open communication between the patient and the plastic surgeon is crucial to understanding and meeting the patient’s desired outcome.
The notion that all breast implants must be placed submuscular is a common misconception. While submuscular placement offers certain advantages, it may not be necessary or appropriate for every patient. Factors such as existing breast tissue, ptosis level, activity level, and patient preference should be taken into consideration when determining the optimal implant placement.

It is essential to consult with a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon who can assess your unique circumstances, discuss the available options, and guide you toward the most suitable approach for achieving your desired breast augmentation results. By understanding the various placement options and dispelling myths, patients can make informed decisions and achieve beautiful and personalized outcomes that align with their specific needs and goals.

The post Not All Breast Implants Need to be Placed Under the Muscle first appeared on Myers Plastic Surgery.

In recent years, the term “mommy makeover” has gained popularity in the realm of plastic surgery. It is often used to describe a combination of procedures aimed at rejuvenating a woman’s body after pregnancy and childbirth. However, it is essential to understand that the “mommy makeover” is not a standardized or specific procedure but should be thought of as a personalized treatment plan instead, tailored to each individual.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no singular, universally defined “mommy makeover” procedure in the profession of plastic surgery. Instead, the term encompasses a range of cosmetic surgeries and non-surgical treatments that are selected and combined based on each patient’s unique needs and goals. The goal of a “mommy makeover” is to address the physical changes that occur during pregnancy and breastfeeding and help women regain their confidence and achieve their desired aesthetic outcome.
One of the key aspects of a successful “mommy makeover” is the individualized approach. Every woman’s body and post-pregnancy concerns are different, and as such, the combination of procedures will vary.
Breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction may be considered to address changes in breast shape, volume, or sagging that can occur during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The choice of procedure depends on factors such as breast size, nipple position, and desired outcome.
A Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is often a central component of a “mommy makeover”. It helps address loose abdominal skin, separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), and stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Liposuction can be included in a “mommy makeover” to target localized areas of excess fat that may persist despite efforts to regain pre-pregnancy body contours. Common areas treated include the abdomen, hips, thighs, and flanks.
Non-surgical procedures such as injectables (Botox or dermal fillers), or skin tightening treatments may be incorporated into a “mommy makeover” plan to address skin elasticity, fine lines, or wrinkles.
To achieve optimal results, a comprehensive consultation with a skilled plastic surgeon is crucial. During this consultation, Dr. Myers will evaluate your unique concerns, discuss your goals, and recommend a personalized treatment plan. He will explain the potential procedures, their benefits, and any associated risks, helping you make an informed decision about the best course of action for your body and desired outcome.
While the term “mommy makeover” has gained popularity, it is important to understand that it is not a specific procedure but rather a customized treatment plan. The combination of procedures will vary for each individual, addressing their specific concerns and goals. By working closely with Dr. Myers, women can create a tailored “mommy makeover” plan that helps restore their confidence, rejuvenates their bodies, and supports their individual journey towards post-pregnancy aesthetic goals.

The post The Truth About the “Mommy Makeover” first appeared on Myers Plastic Surgery.

Many mothers in The Woodlands who breastfeed notice that after they’ve weaned their child, their breasts are deflated and sometimes even sag. This can cause new moms to feel like they don’t even recognize their own bodies and desire a breast augmentation to regain the bust they formerly had. One of the most common questions that Dr. Myers receives from new moms is “How long must I wait after breastfeeding before I can get a breast augmentation.” The answer is two-pronged.

You Need to Wait At Least 6 Months After Your Milk Has Dried Up to Get a Breast Augmentation

The most basic answer to this common question from The Woodlands moms is that women should wait at least 6 months after their milk has dried up before seeking out a breast augmentation. This is because some milk production can still continue even after your child has weaned, and it’s best to make sure that natural process has stopped before inserting silicone or saline implants in your breasts. This is to give you the best possible results, as well as to avoid any potential complications

For Best Results, You Should be Certain You’re Done Breastfeeding Your Children Before Getting a Breast Augmentation

While Dr. Myers understands wanting to get back to your pre-baby body as soon as possible, for the best, long-term results he recommends you are done breastfeeding children before you get breast implants. Make no mistake here – there’s absolutely no risk to your little one if you choose to breastfeed him or her after having silicone or saline implants surgically inserted. However, we all know that pregnancy and breastfeeding can dramatically change a woman’s body, and future breastfeeding may negate the results you initially achieved after your breast augmentation by The Woodlands’ plastic surgeon Dr. Myers, especially if you had both a breast augmentation and a breast lift, which is common amongst new moms. Because Dr. Myers wants you to have results you’ll love for years; he recommends you’re certain you’re done breastfeeding children before getting a breast augmentation after having already breastfed.

The Importance of Breast Augmentations for New Moms

When a childless The Woodlands woman becomes a new mom, she instantly realizes that baby comes before her. This can be extremely draining, both on moms who stay home with their children or working moms who juggle a job and raise their children.

Everyone knows that pregnancy changes a woman’s body, but many new moms don’t realize how much pregnancy and breastfeeding can change their breasts. Their once full, perky breasts can become deflated and saggy, and make mom feel like she’ll never regain the body she used to have.

That’s not true. A breast augmentation, sometimes accompanied with a breast lift, can help a The Woodlands mom regain her former bust and provide some serious self-care. And let’s face it – all moms need a break now and then!

It’s just a fact of life, similar to how one of your feet usually fits into a pair of shoes better than the other foot. But if you have noticeably asymmetrical breasts or breasts that are of different shapes, it can be a condition that makes you uncomfortable. Many women with this condition actually choose a breast enlargement surgery, not always to go bigger altogether, but to even out the size of their uneven breasts.

Breast Enlargement Surgery Works Because You Can Use Different Sized Implants in Each Breast

When it comes to women in The Woodlands getting breast augmentations, there’s no rule that says they need to use the exact same size of breast implants in each breast. Oftentimes to correct breasts that are of different sizes, Dr. Myers will use different sized breast implants in each breast, which provide a more symmetrical, even looking result after surgical swelling has reduced. This can make you feel more comfortable in tight clothing, not to mention allow you to fill out bras and bikini tops better.

Breast Implants Come in Different Shapes

Most women who choose Dr. Myers as their plastic surgeon choose silicone breast implants. These types of implants come in two different sizes – round and teardrop. Teardrop implants are smaller at the top, and larger at the bottom, often providing a more natural looking appearance. If your breasts are of different shapes, choosing the correct breast implant for each breast for your breast enhancement surgery can make all the difference in providing you with natural-looking results that you’ll love.

Periareolar or Inframammary Breast Implant Incisions Make Providing Symmetry More Easy

The Woodlands women should know that there are four breast enlargement incision types:

Trans-umbilical (through the belly button)

Trans-axillary (under the armpit)

Periareolar (an incision made around the nipple)

Inframammary (an incision made in the breast fold, where the breast meets the ribcage)

The latter two breast enlargement incision types allow Dr. Myers to provide The Woodlands patients with the best possible breast symmetry. The reason? When plastic surgeons are inserting breast implants at the actual breast site, it allows them to more easily ensure that the implants look even – both shape and size wise. If you are desiring a breast augmentation due to naturally uneven or misshapen breasts, consider talking to Dr. Myers about whether a periareolar or inframammary incision is right for you.

Schedule an Appointment Today

Whether you feel like you have to hide in loose t-shirts, can’t find a bra that fits, or don’t dare to wear a bathing suit much less a bikini top, having breasts that are misshapen or uneven in size can cause huge problems, both cosmetically and functionally. But women in The Woodlands should know that breast enlargement surgery can correct these issues.

If you have asymmetrically sized or shaped breasts that you would like to surgically correct, call our office to schedule an appointment. Whether they have never felt like they fully developed after puberty, or they feel as though they lost the large volume they used to have after pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is common for women to feel this way. In fact, women desire a breast enlargement for a variety of reasons. Here are 3 of those most common reasons.

Women Feel They Never Really Developed

Some women who live in The Woodlands simply have small breasts. These women may feel that they never actually developed breasts in puberty, which may make them feel less feminine and womanly. A breast enlargement, even one that only minorly enlarges the breasts to a more natural size for a woman’s shape, can be a huge confidence booster for these types of patients.

Women Have Lost Volume Due to Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Pregnancy and motherhood can be some of the most rewarding experiences in a woman’s life. However, some women in The Woodlands naturally experience a loss of breast volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you’ve experienced this, a breast enlargement surgery by Dr. Myers can help you restore what you lost, or perhaps even “boost” you to the size you’ve really always desired.

Women Just Don’t Like the Way They Look in Clothes and Bathing Suits

Whether you feel like you don’t have an hourglass silhouette, or that you just don’t fill out your tops or bathing suits, some women are uncomfortable with the way their breasts appear. This is a common motivator for breast enlargement surgery amongst women in The Woodlands – desiring to get a silhouette that they are comfortable with. If you’ve got all the curves you want except those on the top, getting breast implants can help.

Is Getting Breast Implants Right for You?

Whether you can identify with one of these 3 common reasons for getting breast implants, or have another reason you desire to go bigger, it never hurts to schedule an appointment to talk to Dr. Myers about your options and potential results from a breast enlargement surgery. Aimed at helping you look like the best version of you, Dr. Myers carefully consults with patients to be absolutely sure they are happy with the potential size of implants they may choose to get.

It does not matter why you want to get a bigger bust; if you have that desire, you owe it to yourself to at least explore a breast augmentation surgery as an option for you. Dr. Myers is very thorough with patients in explaining the breast augmentation surgery process, including your incision type options and breast implant options.

Any time people go through a surgical procedure, they want to know exactly what to expect throughout the process. However, the downfall of doing online research is it’s difficult to separate the facts from the myths. That’s why it’s important to talk to a trusted cosmetic surgeon prior to the breast enlargement procedure to get all your questions answered and debunk any common myths. Here are the top five myths we’ve heard about breast enlargement surgery and why patients in The Woodlands shouldn’t believe them.

Enlarged Breasts Look Fake

This may have been true several decades ago. However, the trend today is for breast enlargement surgery to create the most natural results possible. Dr. Myers so will make suggestions based on the person’s body type to ensure the results are proportional. The expertise of Dr. Myers is the difference in the new breasts looking fake or natural.

Breast Implants Must Be Replaced

The consensus about breast enlargement surgery is breast implants will need to be replaced after about ten years. However, it’s entirely possible that they last much longer than this. Some patients in The Woodlands may be pleased with their breast enlargement for the rest of their life. If the patient takes care of the implants and they are generally happy with them, then there’s no rule stating they must be replaced.

Final Results Are Instantaneous

A patient’s breasts will typically sit a little higher on the chest the first few days after breast enlargement surgery. After these few days or weeks, the implants will settle a little lower on the chest and rest into their final position. It’s important to have some patience with breast enlargement surgery, as the final results may not be evident for up to a month or more after the procedure is complete.

Some Implants Can Be Dangerous

Breast implants may have received a bad name many decades ago, but technology has evolved so much over the years that now they are completely safe. An extremely small percentage of patients in The Woodlands experience any complications following breast enlargement surgery. Since the implants are manufactured to be stronger and more durable than ever before, the chances of them rupturing are minimal.

The Recovery Timeline Is Lengthy

While the recovery timeline can differ among patients in The Woodlands, most patients feel back to normal within two weeks of their breast enlargement surgery. Dr. Myers still usually suggests keeping strenuous activities to a minimum for at least a few weeks, but patients can usually return to work after a couple of weeks.

Myers Plastic Surgery has heard virtually every myth ever told about breast enlargement surgery. We want our patients to know we will always be honest and upfront throughout the process to ensure they are comfortable and confident, at all times.

This is a very valid and important question to know the answer to before undergoing the breast augmentation. Most women will be back to work within one week or so, even if the body is still going through the recovery process. However, it’s critical to listen to the recommendations provided by Dr. Myers following the procedure, as every patient is different. Here are three tips to consider for breast augmentation aftercare.

Have a Trusted Person Help Out

When the breast augmentation procedure is scheduled, start making arrangements to have another adult at the house to help out. This is especially true if children or pets live in the house as well. Women in The Woodlands usually feel like they can do everything as normal a day or two after their breast augmentation, but Dr. Myers still recommends taking it easy. This means not doing any heavy lifting, strenuous cleaning and more. Having another person at the house, even if it’s just checking in a few times each day, will go a long way to help the recovery process go smoothly.

Rest As Much As Possible

Before the breast augmentation procedure, many women in The Woodlands will ensure they have nice clean sheets on the bed, plenty of pillows to prop themselves up and a variety of movies and other forms of entertainment. Dr. Myers wants his patients to rest as much as possible, especially in the first few days following the breast augmentation. The body needs rest even if it sometimes feels like it’s completely rested, so refrain from getting up and cooking, cleaning, taking the dog for a walk and other normal activities. Take advantage of the time alone and enjoy the peace and quiet in the comfort of your bed or couch.

Follow the Doctor’s Recommendations

Every patient in The Woodlands is different, so Dr. Myers’ aftercare recommendations may differ slightly among them. Be sure to follow his plan closely, as the recommendations he makes are tailored specifically to how the breast augmentation procedure went, the individual patient’s medical history and more. Dr. Myers not only wants every one of his patients to recover quickly but also in the safest way possible for both their short-term and long-term health. It’s essential that every patient listens to their body and reaches out to Dr. Myers if any questions arise about the aftercare process.

At Myers Plastic Surgery, we believe every woman in The Woodlands deserves to look and feel their best. No matter the reason for getting a breast augmentation, we strive to turn every patient’s vision into a reality. Dr. Myers is the best at what he does because he makes a genuine effort to relate to his patients, so he knows exactly what their goals and expectations are.

If you have any questions about getting a breast augmentation or what to do afterward, contact us by calling (936) 539-8115 today to schedule an appointment.

Patients in The Woodlands who work closely with their plastic surgeon planning every detail of their surgery can be sure they’ll be delighted with their results.

Determining the Details

No two The Woodlands patients are alike; each woman’s anatomy, hopes, and reasons for wanting breast enlargement surgery differ. During your appointment with Dr. Myers, he will discuss the various details of your breast enlargement surgery including what shape, size, texture, incision site and placement sites that he would recommend for you based on your height, weight, skin looseness, and chest measurements. When envisioning the outcome, every detail must be meticulously planned.

Shape

What implant shape you choose will significantly affect your results, and there are two very different options. The first is the teardrop – or contoured shaped implant. Teardrop breast implants offer more projection by volume than round shaped implants and are an ideal choice for women in The Woodlands who prefer their breasts have a more natural appearance that slopes gently away from the chest as opposed to round implants that offer more fullness on top. Round implants tend to have an artificial appearance and are perfect for women who want a lot of cleavage.

Size

Most The Woodlands breast enlargement patients are primarily concerned with what size their new breasts will be. Dr. Myers offers sizers that you can try on to get a better idea of what you are comfortable with. When advising patients about what size he would recommend, Dr. Myers factors in your activity level as well as the other details mentioned above. Something that patients should take into consideration is the more volume the implants have, the heavier they will be.

Surface Texturing

There are two different types of surface textures. Textured implants are the only option available for The Woodlands women who choose teardrop shaped implants. Both round and teardrop shaped implants have a small risk of rotation, but because teardrop shaped breast implants are not symmetrical, they require a textured surface. It is recommended that women who choose round breast implants consult with their doctor when making a choice between smooth and textured surfaces, being that both are options with round implants.

Incision Site

Dr. Myers will recommend one of 3 incision sites. The first of which is located under the breast fold, in the crease, where it is well-hidden. Another possible incision site is around the lower part of the areola and is an inconspicuous way to disguise the small scar. The third option he may suggest is located in the armpit area. Generally, the closer the incision is to the breast the more likely it is that the outcome will be symmetrical.

Placement Site

Breast enlargement patients can choose whether to have their breast implants placed over or under the pectoralis major muscle. However, it is usually recommended that patients have their breast implants placed under the muscle because the risk of capsular contraction (scarring that forms around the implant) is much more likely if the implants are over the muscle.

Guiding You in the Right Direction

With Dr. Myers guidance you can design the breasts of your dreams. His goal as a surgeon is to create results that meet your expectations while making sure you are properly informed. Your health and safety are his number one priority. To get started on your journey call our office today at (936) 539-8115 to schedule your appointment.

The post What Shape, Size, Surface Texturing, Incision Site, and Placement Site is Recommended for Me? first appeared on Myers Plastic Surgery.

How Breast Enhancement Affects Nipple Sensitivity

The reason your nipples are more sensitive than other areas of your body is that there are nerves running to them that unlike the skin on your forearm, for instance, are closer to the surface. When women in The Woodlands undergo a breast enhancement surgery, they want to increase their breast size but may not know that if they choose implants that are too big for their bodies, it increases the chances that the nerve will be damaged.

Initially, some The Woodlands patients may experience temporary changes in sensitivity after their breast enhancement surgery, but this doesn’t mean that your nerve has been cut or permanently damaged. You may worry that the lack of sensation is permanent, but no matter how well your procedure goes, you may still feel some changes afterward. In the months following your surgery, the nerve that provides feeling to your nipples may stretch while your body is healing. The stretching can make your nipples feel strange, but after you have thoroughly healed, you should not experience any lingering changes to your nipples.

Permanent changes to your nipples after breast enhancement surgery are rare. A very small percentage of patients will lose sensitivity, but that typically doesn’t occur unless the nerve was completely severed. What a lot of breast enhancement patients in The Woodlands may not know is that some women experience more sensation after their surgery which is a surprising benefit.

An Informed Patient is a Happy Patient

It is essential that you are informed about any and all possible risks before embarking on your journey. A well-done breast enhancement surgery offers you beautiful looking breasts that feel as good as they look. Gathering the correct information from reputable sources is crucial because there are many myths and half-truths that get tossed around making it difficult to know what’s true and what’s not. Dr. Myers thoroughly explains all aspects of the surgery during his appointment with prospective breast enhancement patients in The Woodlands, listening intently to their goals and expectations while recommending what he thinks would work best for you. Just as no two women are alike, there are no two breast enhancement procedures that are the same. The best way to ensure you retain the sensitivity in your nipples and get amazing looking results is to consider your doctor’s suggestions. If you have unrealistic goals that may end up harming you, such as wanting breast implants that are so large that they could cause nerve damage, it is your doctor’s responsibility to guide you in the right direction.

When In Doubt Ask an Expert

We know that you have all sorts of questions and worries, but you can be certain that there is nothing Dr. Myers hasn’t been asked or told before, so we encourage all of our patients to communicate exactly what’s on their mind. Women in The Woodlands can learn more about breast enhancement surgery by scheduling an appointment with Dr. Myers. Call (936) 539-8115.

The post Nipple Sensitivity After Breast Enhancement first appeared on Myers Plastic Surgery.

After all, when it comes to your body, you can never be too cautious. We encourage women living in The Woodlands to carefully consider every detail of their breast enlargement surgery before embarking on this journey, so you’re completely satisfied with your results.

Choosing What’s Best For You

Planning your breast enlargement surgery is an exciting experience because you get to design how your breasts will look. Every woman who undergoes breast enlargement surgery does so for reasons that are very personal to them. But all of our patients have one thing in common – they aren’t happy with the appearance of their breasts and how that affects their self-esteem. Some women in The Woodlands may feel overwhelmed, which is why we’ve compiled a simplified list of 5 important choices that you get to make.

Silicone or Saline. Both saline and silicone implants have advantages and disadvantages that breast enlargement patients in The Woodlands should thoroughly consider. Silicone breast implants are an excellent choice for women who prefer their breasts to look more natural and feel softer to the touch. They are pre-filled and have a thick, gummy-bear candy consistency as opposed to saline implants which are initially deflated and inserted through small incision sites and then filled with sterile salt water. Most women chose silicone implants for their breast enlargement surgery. Discussing the pros and cons of both types of breast implants with your doctor will help you make an informed decision.

When selecting the size of your new breasts, it’s important that you consider your body type as well as your lifestyle – now 10 or 20 years from now. Whether you chose small, medium, or large sized breasts, you to be delighted with the size you choose for years to come.

Round or Teardrop Shape. Round, circular looking implants are softer than teardrop implants and make the breasts look much fuller on top, whereas teardrop shaped breast implants look more natural and feel slightly firmer than round implants. Again, it’s about personal preference – and ultimately it’s your decision.

Incision Location. There are four incision locations available to women in The Woodlands who are interested in breast enlargement surgery. Inframammary incision (located in the crease under the breast); periareolar incision (located at the nipple site); transaxillary incision (located in the underarm); or TUBA incision (located in the belly button).

There are two breast implant placement to select from; above or below the pectoralis muscle. If the implants are placed under the muscle, they have a more natural appearance appealing to The Woodlands women who prefer a more inconspicuous look. If the implants are placed over the muscle, they tend to look more rounded and augmented, but there’s less post-op discomfort associated with over the muscle implant placement.

Working as a Team

To ensure long-lasting results that you are happy with it’s crucial that you and your surgeon are in complete agreeance. Possibly the most critical decision you will make is choosing a plastic surgeon who will work with you and help you make informed decisions. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Myers to discuss your goals and get to know more about your options.

We look forward to hearing from you, so call our The Woodlands office at (936) 539-8115 today to begin your journey.

The post 5 Considerations When Having Breast Enlargement Surgery first appeared on Myers Plastic Surgery.
