Do Silicone Implants Really Look Better Than Saline Implants?
With some things in life, it’s easy to say which is better. Is a million dollars better than five-hundred thousand? Of course, it is. With other things, though, the choice might not be so clear. Does a BMW look better than a Mercedes? Some people might say yes beyond any doubt but others might disagree.
The same can be said about the choice of saline or silicone breast implants. While there are definitely differences between the two types, this choice often comes down to a matter of personal opinion. The one thing we can say for certain is that The Woodlands breast augmentation expert Dr. Wesley T. Myers can help you arrive at the choice that’s right for you.
Differences in Saline and Silicone Implants
Probably the best way we can help you form an opinion about what implant type is best for you is by discussing some of the differences between them. Consider the following points:
- There is some debate as to whether you can tell silicone and saline implants apart just by seeing them, but most surgeons agree that silicone implants do feel more natural than saline implants.
- With sub-glandular (over the pectoral muscle) implant placement, saline implants have been known to visually ripple occasionally, due to their liquid composition.
- Because saline implants can be filled after they’ve been placed, they don’t require as large of an incision as silicone implants, thus yielding smaller scars.
- In the case of an implant rupture, saline implants make the problem visible immediately whereas silicone implants may require an MRI to detect.
If you’re struggling with the decision over what implant type is best for you, the best thing to do is talk your concerns and goals over with Dr. Myers. He has your best interest in mind and will partner with you to reach a decision you both can feel good about.
